Do Canadians Need a Visa for Bali in 2026?

Yes — Canadian passport-holders need a visa for Bali, but it is quick and inexpensive, and Canada is a steadily growing source market as more Canadians winter in Southeast Asia. Canadian citizens are on the Visa on Arrival (VOA) list, not the visa-free list. For a holiday you do not apply at the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa or the consulate in Toronto or Vancouver. You buy the VOA on arrival at Ngurah Rai Airport, or — the route we recommend — apply for the eVOA online before you fly.

The VOA gives you 30 days from arrival and can be extended once for another 30 days — up to 60 days in Bali. For a typical Canadian trip — a winter escape, a honeymoon, a surf or dive trip, or a few weeks of remote work — the VOA or eVOA covers it.

If you plan to stay past 60 days — many Canadians spend the whole northern winter in Bali — you will need one of the longer visas below, arranged in advance.

How Canadians Apply for the eVOA — Step by Step

We recommend Canadian travellers apply for the eVOA online before departure to avoid the airport line:

  1. Use the official portal only — evisa.imigrasi.go.id. It is the sole official Indonesian eVOA site; lookalike scam sites target Canadians, so verify the URL. Apply 90 days to 48 hours before departure.
  2. Register and select “Visa on Arrival (B1)”, choosing Canada as your nationality.
  3. Upload your Canadian passport bio page (valid 6+ months beyond arrival, with a blank page) and a passport-style photo.
  4. Pay IDR 500,000 by Visa, Mastercard or JCB. Your Canadian card is charged the CAD equivalent (about CAD 49) at your bank’s rate, plus any foreign-transaction fee.
  5. Receive the eVOA PDF by email — print it and keep a phone copy. Up to five applicants per session suits couples and families.
  6. On arrival, use the eVOA lane, complete the All Indonesia Arrival Card, and pay the tourist levy.

Prefer to hand it off? We prepare, verify and submit your eVOA so a document error never causes a rejection — handy if you are organising a group winter trip. Message us.

Best Long-Stay Visa for Canadians

Canadian long-stayers in Bali are mostly remote workers and snowbird retirees escaping the winter, so the long-stay choice usually comes down to:

  • Working remotely for a Canadian (or any overseas) employer or clients? The Digital Nomad Visa E33G gives one year if you earn USD 60,000+/year and hold an overseas employment contract. It is not renewable — you exit and re-apply to continue.
  • Aged 55+ and wintering or retiring in Bali? The Retirement KITAS E33F requires USD 3,000/month income (a Canadian pension, RRSP/RRIF or CPP income can qualify), health insurance, and a Bali rental.
  • Settling for years at any age, or buying property? The Second Home Visa E33 requires an IDR 2 billion (~CAD 178,000) deposit in a state bank within 90 days of arrival, or qualifying property — no employment requirement, no upper age limit.

Many Canadians try a long winter on a B211A first, then convert to a KITAS onshore. We will lay out the cheapest legal route, in Canadian dollars.

Canadian Passport — What You Need at Ngurah Rai Airport

Arriving in Bali on a Canadian passport, you should have:

  • Passport validity: at least 6 months beyond arrival, with a blank page.
  • Your visa: VOA on arrival or a pre-approved eVOA.
  • All Indonesia Arrival Card (AIDC): free, at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id within 3 days before arrival.
  • Bali Tourist Levy: IDR 150,000 (~CAD 15) per person.
  • Onward/return ticket and accommodation booking.
  • Proof of funds: be ready to evidence around USD 2,000 (~CAD 2,780) and roughly three months of bank statements.

Travel.gc.ca (Global Affairs Canada) travel advice for Indonesia reflects these rules, but the authoritative source is Indonesian immigration at imigrasi.go.id. Where advice conflicts, follow the Indonesian rule.

FAQ — Bali Visa for Canadians

Q1: Can I use my Canadian debit card for the eVOA?
Usually a Visa or Mastercard credit card is most reliable — evisa.imigrasi.go.id accepts Visa, Mastercard and JCB. Some Canadian debit cards aren’t enabled for international online payments, so check with your bank or use a credit card. The charge is the CAD equivalent of IDR 500,000 (about CAD 49) plus any foreign-transaction fee. If it’s declined, we can submit for you.

Q2: Is Bali visa-free for Canadian citizens in 2026?
No. Canadians are not on the visa-free list, but they are VOA-eligible: IDR 500,000 (~CAD 49) for 30 days, extendable once to 60. There’s no need to visit an Indonesian consulate in Canada for a normal holiday.

Q3: How long can Canadians stay in Bali?
On the VOA/eVOA, up to 60 days (30 + one 30-day extension). For a longer winter or year-round stay, use a B211A, a KITAS (1–2 years), or the Second Home Visa (5–10 years).

Q4: I’m a Canadian snowbird — what’s the best visa to spend the winter in Bali?
For up to 60 days, the VOA/eVOA works. For a full 4–6 month winter, a B211A visit visa (60 days, extendable) or a Retirement KITAS E33F (if you’re 55+) is the usual snowbird route. We’ll match the most cost-effective option to your dates.

Q5: Can Canadians work remotely from Bali on a tourist visa?
No. The VOA and B211A prohibit work, and Indonesia is enforcing this in 2026. Canadian remote workers earning USD 60,000+/year need the Digital Nomad Visa E33G. Read the 2026 rules →.
