New for 2026: the All Indonesia Arrival Card is mandatory. Complete it before you fly. How to complete it

Alih status

Become a Resident Without the Flight

Conversion turns a B211A visit visa into a KITAS while you stay in Bali. No exit, no re-apply, no break in your stay. You need thirty one days left on the clock.

Conversion eligibility verified against Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi sources. Confirm your specific visa with us before relying on it.

What conversion actually is

Changing your visa into a different one without leaving the country. Usually a B211A visit visa becoming a year long residence permit.

Before alih status, deciding to stay meant flying out, applying from abroad and flying back. Conversion removes the flight, the cost and the break in continuity.

Not an extension
An extension lengthens the same visa. A conversion replaces it.
Onshore
You apply from Bali. Your stay stays continuous.
Thirty one days
Generally the minimum remaining when you apply.
Sponsor required
For the KITAS you are converting into, not the one you hold.

Who converts

People who arrived as visitors and decided, somewhere along the way, that they were staying.

You need something else if you are

What conversion needs

Timing is the one that catches people. The rest is documentation.

An eligible visa
Typically a B211A or C1 visit visa
Time remaining
Generally thirty one days or more when you apply
A sponsor
Employer, PT PMA, Indonesian spouse, or ours where applicable
In-person attendance
Biometric and immigration office steps
Target permit documents
Vary by KITAS: contracts, company records, certificates
Proof of funds
Where the target permit requires it
No overstay
A clean record on the current visa
Passport validity
Well beyond the permit being applied for

Leave it later than thirty one days and you are back to the old route: exit, apply from abroad, fly in again. Start early and that never becomes the conversation.

What it costs

A conversion is priced as the target permit plus the onshore process, so the figure follows the KITAS you are converting into.

  • To Retirement E33F One year, renewable, age 55 and over From USD 1,290
  • To Working E23 Employer sponsored, RPTKA required From USD 2,190
  • To Investor E28A PT PMA shareholding required From USD 2,790
  • To Family or Spouse E31 and E31A, sponsor dependent From USD 990

The conversion itself is quoted with the permit rather than as a separate line, so you see one all-in figure. What you save against the old route is a flight, a hotel and a break in your stay.

How it goes

Five steps, and the first one is a yes or no.

  1. 01

    Eligibility checked

What you hold, how long is left, and what you want to convert into. Some combinations do not work, and we say so.

  2. 02

    Sponsor arranged

For the target permit. An employer, a PT PMA, a spouse, or us where that applies.

  3. 03

    Documents prepared

The target KITAS decides the set. Contracts, company records, apostilled certificates.

  4. 04

    Filed onshore

Through the official portals, from Bali, with your appointment booked.

  5. 05

    Permit issued

You move from visitor to resident without your feet leaving the island.

What converts, and what does not

The visit visa is the conversion friendly route. The VOA is the one that closes the door.

If it will not convert

From a VOA or eVOA
Exit and re-apply
From a B211A / C1
Rarely needed

If there is any chance you will want to stay, enter on a B211A rather than a VOA. It costs a little more and it keeps the onshore route open.

Read this part

Three things worth knowing early

All three are about timing rather than paperwork.

Thirty one days is the line

Apply with less remaining and you are generally pushed back to the exit and re-apply route, or into an overstay conversation.

Extend first if needed

A VOA is the wrong starting point

It generally cannot be converted onshore. If you are already on one and have decided to stay, talk to us early because the options are narrower.

See the B211A

The sponsor comes first

A conversion needs a sponsor for the permit you are moving to, not the one you hold. No sponsor, no conversion, whatever the timing.
