Can my family work on an E31?

No. They may study, but employment requires them to qualify for a work based KITAS in their own right.

Which documents cause the most delay?

Relationship proof. The marriage or birth certificate must be apostilled and then given a sworn Indonesian translation, in that order.

How long does the permit last?

It follows the sponsor. When the main holder renews the dependants renew, which keeps the family on one schedule.

I am married to an Indonesian citizen. Is this my visa?

What the Family KITAS actually is

The E31 exists because a main permit exists. It mirrors that permit, and it stands or falls on the relationship documents.

Where a foreigner is married to an Indonesian citizen the route is the Spouse KITAS instead, which carries limited work rights and a faster path to KITAP.

What it takes

The relationship documents decide this application. Everything else is routine.

Sponsor: A primary KITAS or KITAP holder as guarantor
Marriage certificate: Apostilled, with a sworn Indonesian translation
Birth certificate: Apostilled and translated, for each child
Sponsor documents: The main holder's permit and passport
Passport: Each dependant, valid 18 months or more recommended
Health insurance: Valid in Indonesia, per person
Photographs: Recent, plain background, per person
Biometrics: In person, per dependant

Legalising certificates in the wrong order is where families lose weeks. The apostille comes first and the sworn translation second.
