What is the difference between D1 and D2?

Purpose. The D1 covers leisure and personal visits, the D2 covers meetings, conferences, audits and investment exploration. Neither allows paid work.

Yes, for both. The D2 sponsor is usually a company, and we arrange it as part of the filing.

Can I convert it to a KITAS later?

No. Multiple entry visas are not convertible onshore. A KITAS route starts with a different visa.

Which validity should I choose?

The per entry stay is sixty days either way. Longer validity simply buys more years before you reapply.

What the multiple-entry visa actually is

A multiple entry visa is permission to keep arriving. It does not grant residence, and it does not allow paid work.

Multiple entry visas do not convert onshore. If the plan is to become a resident rather than a visitor, the route starts with a different visa.

What it takes

A sponsor, and a passport that outlives the visa.

Passport: Valid for the full visa period, well beyond six months
Photograph: Recent, plain background
Indonesian sponsor: Required. Usually a company for the D2
Proof of funds: Held by you, evidenced
Purpose documents: Invitation or business letters for the D2
Validity chosen: One, two or five years
Arrival card: Completed before each arrival
Filed for you: Through the official portal

A five year visa needs a passport that lasts. Renewing the passport mid validity does not carry the visa across automatically.

Neither allows paid work. The D2 permits business activity, which is not the same thing, and that difference is where people get caught.
