eVOA vs Airport VOA Bali 2026 — What’s the Difference?

Last updated: May 2026 · by Bali Visa Trusted

The eVOA and airport VOA are the same visa — IDR 500,000 for 30 days, extendable once to 60 days. The only difference is when and how you apply: the eVOA is applied for online before you fly (at evisa.imigrasi.go.id), while the VOA is bought at a counter on arrival in Bali.

Last updated: 2026. Both routes are governed by Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi; the eVOA portal is evisa.imigrasi.go.id{rel=”nofollow” target=”_blank”}. Figures verified against official sources.

eVOA vs VOA — Side-by-Side Comparison

Both the electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA) and the traditional Visa on Arrival (VOA) grant the same 30-day stay at the same IDR 500,000 cost, and both can be extended once for another 30 days (60 days maximum). What changes is the timing and method of application.

Both routes per Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi, 2026. eVOA: apply 48 hours to 90 days before travel, up to 5 applicants per session, payable by Visa/Mastercard/JCB. Verify at evisa.imigrasi.go.id{rel=”nofollow” target=”_blank”}.

The headline is simple: same price, same stay, same extension rights. Neither is “better value” in cash terms — the choice is about convenience and certainty.

Why We Recommend the eVOA

For most travellers, Juara Holding Group recommends the eVOA over paying at the airport — for three practical reasons:

  1. You skip the on-arrival payment queue. With the eVOA already approved and on your phone, you go straight to immigration rather than queuing first to pay for a VOA. After a long-haul flight, that matters.
  2. You have certainty before you board. Your visa is approved before you leave home. There is no scenario where you arrive and find a payment problem at the counter.
  3. You can apply for up to five people at once. Families and groups can complete one eVOA session for up to five applicants — paid by Visa, Mastercard or JCB.

Apply between 48 hours and 90 days before travel. Cutting it closer than 48 hours risks not receiving approval in time, in which case you would fall back on the airport VOA.

Whichever route you choose, remember the eVOA/VOA is not your only entry step. Every arrival must also complete the All Indonesia Arrival Card within 3 days before arrival, and pay the IDR 150,000 Bali Tourist Levy.

How to Apply for the eVOA

The eVOA is applied for entirely online at the official portal:

  1. Go to evisa.imigrasi.go.id — the only official eVOA portal. Avoid lookalike sites (a common scam vector).
  2. Create an account and start an application. You can add up to five applicants in one session.
  3. Upload your details and passport. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
  4. Pay IDR 500,000 per applicant by Visa, Mastercard or JCB.
  5. Receive your eVOA by email — usually within a short time. Save it to your phone and print a copy.
  6. Show it on arrival. Present the eVOA at immigration in Bali; no airport payment queue.

If you would rather not navigate the portal yourself — or you’ve been caught out by a fake “official” site — our team can prepare and lodge your eVOA correctly, the first time.

Common eVOA Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using a fake “official” website. Only evisa.imigrasi.go.id is the genuine government portal. Many copycat sites overcharge or harvest your data — see our Bali visa scams guide.
  • Applying too late. Apply at least 48 hours before travel; under that, approval may not arrive in time.
  • Passport under 6 months’ validity. Renew first — an underdated passport can be refused entry.
  • Forgetting it’s only 30 days. The eVOA gives 30 days, extendable once to 60. For longer stays plan a B211A or KITAS instead.
  • Skipping the Arrival Card and levy. The eVOA is separate from the mandatory AIDC and the IDR 150,000 tourist levy.

What If Your eVOA Isn’t Approved in Time?

The eVOA is usually approved quickly, but plan for the edge case:

  • You applied too late. If you left it under 48 hours and approval hasn’t arrived, you can normally still get the airport VOA on arrival — same IDR 500,000, same 30 days. The airport route is the natural fallback, which is partly why the VOA still exists alongside the eVOA.
  • There’s a problem with your application. A passport-validity issue or a payment problem can hold things up. This is exactly the kind of snag a licensed agent prevents by checking your details before lodging.
  • You’re travelling as a group. If one applicant in your five-person session has an issue, it can delay the batch — another reason to apply with margin, not at the last minute.

The practical rule: apply early, keep your approval saved offline, and know that the airport VOA is your backstop. If you’d rather not risk it, have us prepare and lodge the eVOA for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the eVOA cheaper than the airport VOA?
No — both cost IDR 500,000 (~USD 35) for 30 days and can be extended once to 60 days. The price is identical. The eVOA’s advantage is convenience: it’s approved before you fly and lets you skip the airport payment queue.

Can I extend an eVOA the same as a VOA?
Yes. Both the eVOA and the airport VOA can be extended once, for another 30 days, taking you to a 60-day maximum. Since May 2025, the extension requires an in-person biometric appointment in Bali. See our extension guide.

Which is the official eVOA website?
The only official portal is evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Be very careful: copycat “official-looking” sites are a common scam. If a site charges far more than IDR 500,000 or asks for unusual payment methods, it is not the government portal.

How early should I apply for the eVOA?
Apply between 48 hours and 90 days before travel. Closer than 48 hours risks not receiving approval in time — in which case you would need to use the airport VOA instead.

Do I still need the Arrival Card if I have an eVOA?
Yes. The eVOA is your visa; the All Indonesia Arrival Card (AIDC) is a separate mandatory online form completed within 3 days before arrival. You also pay the IDR 150,000 Bali Tourist Levy.
